Timo Maas

Of all the DJs on the countdown, he is the youngest; coming onto the scene in the early 2000's. He has two albums Connected and Music for the Maases, which gets bonus points for the pun. His remixes are quite good, somehow turning everything he touches into a trademark Timo sound (repetitive booming beat, slow builds, and layered vocals), buts its when he mixes them into his sets that they really feel like they make sense. I have had only two albums to get to know him, but he lands on the countdown based purely on the genius of...
Connected:
This album is the shit! There is an vibe pulsing from beginning to end, never coming up for air just perputually getting down. His remix of Placebo made me for a second like Placebo, a feat worth another mention. His remix of Placebo made me for a second like Placebo. Much in the same way Digs focuses on a groove and follows, Timo lets the tracks play out joining them at ends. But whats interesting is that the tracks feel like they should be quick cutted, which at first thought made this album a little repetitive. Then as I listened more I caught on to what he was doing, which was to follow the groove up and down up and down and every once in a while you follow it all the way to the end then, smack next song going up. Track to Track there are also some really etherial moments that seem to pick the beat up so when he drops the next song, he DROPS IT. 5 stars.

Music for the Maases:

Basically a collection of remixes and other collaborations, beatmatched and structured by him. On the DJ end I picked Timo for his song choice, which is usually his remixes coupled with a few other songs. But he mainly features his songs on his sets, so his real skill lies in his remixes. And this album is a comprehensive collection of why they are so badass. The bass has ass! The beats are original and feel fresh, and build gradually and heavily.
