The Oldest DJ on the list, Danny Tenaglia has been DJing since the early 80s. And throughout that time he has produced several albums, held residencies at several different major clubs and put out several high profile DJ comps. The odd thing too is that his style has changed very little. Like many of my favorites he spins mainly house and garage. But the majority of his picks are older than 10 years, and they still blow the doors your ass. His mixing technique is in vein with Oakenfold's, in fact I think Oakey got it from him, and simply stick things together.
Danny Tenaglia: A Collection of Classics
This man has accumulated over 20,000 records throughout his career. And Azuli asked him to pick his favorites and mix them. This of course proves to be quite a chore, and in his liner notes he goes step by step through the process and talks about how his initial picks totalled 58 songs. i will scan and print some of the liner notes when i find them. Its these notes that shows that there is love very every on his picks and his love for his music. Its with this pretense that makes this album so enjoyable to listen to. Its full of slow groovin house, wailing chicks and glossy pianos. great chilling out music.
GU 010: Athens
This album gives me a mixture of the warm and fuzzies and intravenous injection of my awkward sophomore year. But my sophomore year really has nothing to do with this album, because it was just the soundtrack to my angst filled 15 “acting like a little bitch” life. So lets get to the warm and fuzzies. Of all the 20 albums that I have listened to in the Global Underground series, this is the warmest and low key of them all. Starting off in haze with ‘Absolute Reason - (with Stereo Danger)’, he slowly cruises through tracks like ‘Moody - (with BPT)’ and ‘Real Jazz, The - (Dahlback mix, with Dahlback & Krome)’. Each of the tracks feels minimalistic though, which is interesting. There is just enough groove in them, no more no less. I have definitely rocked this album since I first bought way back when, I have even hunted down several of the tracks and own them on vinyl. If you are looking for a road trip album, this is for you. It locks into a subtle groove and doesn’t drag it’s feet.
